Hans Rasmussen was born January 21, 1810 in Gjerpen by parents
Rasmus Larsen Fossum (bpt Apr 26, 1778, dead May 14, 1845) and Gjertrud Hansdatter from Bjørndalen under Bøe (bpt. Nov. 20th, 1774, dead Apr 3, 1839).
He married Oct 22 1835 to Margrethe Hansdatter from Aas Søndre. She was bapt Mar 4, 1804
as daughter of Hans Halvorsen Aas
(bpt Oct 3, 1773, dead Mar 27 1824) and Karen Nilsdatter from Furuvald (bpt Sep 10, 1775, dead after 1845)
Hans and Margrethe had the following children:
1. Karen, born Mar 27, 1837.
2. Rasmus, born May 30, 1839, dead June 13, 1839. He
died from smallpox, 15 days old.
3. Martin, born Oct 28, 1840
4. Rasmus,
born Apr 20, 1843
5. Christen, born May 19, 1847.
In 1845 the family lived at a small place Simonsjordet
which belonged to the farm Fossum Søndre.
Margarethe’s sister Inger Hansdatter, age 44, lived with them in 1845. She was
unmarried. In 1865 she emigrated together with them.

The family moved to
Pierce Co, Wisconsin where Karen (Caroline) married Moritz Wenzel, a Civil War
veteran.
She died Jan 13, 1904 in Prescott, Wisconsin.
Caroline and Morris had the children:
Theodore, born 1877, dead 1947 in Burlington, Iowa
Henry, born 1875, dead 1944 in Prescott.
