Engebregt Nielsen Lysa under Nedre Sem. Born on Lysa under Sem in Gjerpen June 20, 1821 by parents Niels Halvorsen and Anne Rasmusdatter.
His father died at the age of 55, April 13, 1845 on the farm Bøe in Gjerpen. His first wife Anne, had died sometime before 1835 and he remarried to Margrethe Jacobsdatter.
 
There is a probate dated January 28, 1840 on the farm Bøe after Anne Rasmusdatter Lysa, "who had died long ago". Only Engebregt is mentioned, so he was probably the only child who grew up. He was 18 years old then and lived at home with his father. It is mentioned they had a 12 year old horse, 2 cows, 2 sheep and a lamb.

In 1847 Engebregt Nielsen emigrated together with his step-mother and her children (his half-siblings).
