Inger Eriksdatter Foss (Widow)

Inger Eriksdatter Foss:  She was born on the farm Berberg and baptized in Gjerpen May 15, 1791 and parents were Erik Abrahamsen and Margrethe Tollefsdatter. They were married July 22, 1790. Inger was married Oct 15, 1815 to Halvor Jacobsen in Gjerpen, son of Jacob Hansen Aashammeren, baptized Jan 28, 1787 and dead March 22, 1848 in Gjerpen.
Their children were:
Karen Margrethe, born April, 7, 1816. According to Bjerke "Manitowoc-skogen", Manitowoc 1994, she married Amund Solvesen, son of Solve Olsen and Ingeborg Jacobsdatter, born June 9, 1817 on Nisterud under Bøe in Gjerpen. He died Oct 9, 1886. Lived at Evergreen.

Jacob
, born June 11, 1825. He married Grethe Marie Hansdatter Hammer and settled in Evergreen. Grethe Marie was born Nov 2, 1820 in Denmark.
Jacob is mentioned in Manitowoc from 1850 to 1875; he was a dry goods merchant in 1860 and a clerk in 1870.

Maria
, born Aug 28, 1829. She was married March 6, 1854 in Manitowoc to Christopher Evensen, son of Even Christophersen and Elisabeth Olsdatter from
Follaug in Gjerpen. They are also said to have immigrated in 1850. Maria and Even lived 1850 in Manitowoc, 1853-54 in Two Rivers and are mentioned as
farmers in Gibson 1860. Maria died July 14, 1857 of consumption.

Inger and Halvor settled on the small place Kverna under the farm Foss Nordre. (Kverna means "mill") He was a crofter and a miller.
In the census of 1835 we find the family like this:

In 1845 (census), Halvor and Inger lives on "Kverna" alone with their daughter Maria.

The family emigrated to Manitowoc in Wisconsin. On the same vessel was also Grethe Maria Hansdatter Jønnevald or Hammer. She was originally from Denmark.
Inger Eriksdatter died in 1859 and is buried in Manitowoc.
 


From Gretchen Halvorsen Lulloff I have received the following information:

In 1850 my g-g-g-g-grandmother Inger Eriksdatter and two of her children Jacob Halvorsen, Maria Halvorsdatter and Jacobs future wife Grethe Marie Hammer (originally from Denmark), left Gjerpen and came to Manitowoc, WI USA. They sailed to America on the "Brig Alert" Arriving in New York on 29 June 1850. Jacob and Grethe Marie were married and had 4 children;
Anne Christine Halvorsen b 1852 d. 1853,
Halvor Jacob Halvorsen b. 1854 d. 1924,
Jensine Christine Halvorsen b. 1856 d. 1860,
Inger Nicoline Marie Halvorsen b. 1862 d. 1939.
Of the 4 children only Halvor married and had children.
(NB. They also had a stillborn child buried July 31, 1859. /JC)

Halvor married Catherine Marie Udenby from Denmark. They had 7 children;
